TAKBO Sagipin Ang Kalikasan Baguio City

Celebrating its 10th year in military service, the Philippine Military Academy Mandarangan Class of 2003 will be slating their first ever Run for a Cause in Baguio City.

Dubbed as “Takbo! Sagipin ang Kalikasan”, one of PMA’s host classes for next year’s alumni homecoming engages in a bold attempt to gather runners in a 3K, 5K and 10K and 21K half marathon while fulfilling their three-pronged cause: to plant trees, return a favor to their alma mater and provide assistance to an ailing “mistah”.

The class proposes to plant coffee seedlings in PMA, as part of its advocacy to promote a lush environment. Added to this, “the Mandarangans deemed that propagating trees for coffee production will be a possible livelihood program for individuals assigned by the Academy to take care of the trees”.

Another chunk of the proceeds shall be donated to the PMA cadets in the form of sports equipment as their show of gratitude to the Academy for training them into becoming military officers.

The run was also conceptualized to help LT Frederick Emil Tapawan, who has been battling with tonsillar cancer for more than two years now. Tapawan who is fondly called as “Tappy” by his classmates in PMA 2003, has been a valiant officer of the Philippine Navy before he was diagnosed with cancer. Tappy has been knocking onto generous hearts to sustain his treatment as he researches on ways to conquer the illness to prove that he can win this fight.
